K-water participates in construction of 1,000 pyong industrial complex in Bucha, Ukraine

K-water and Ukraine’s Bucha City and Ministry of Infrastructure signed an MOU on cooperation for urban reconstruction and water management in Bucha, Ukraine on November 24 at the Hangang River Basin Head Office. The highlights of the MOU are as follows △ technology cooperation and joint development of a business model for the development of a sustainable city including an industrial complex, △ technology cooperation for the recovery and modernization of water management facilities in Bucha, and △ sharing of professional knowledge and knowhow on urban reconstruction and water management. These are all part of broader efforts to help rebuild the city of Bucha, which has been significantly destroyed by the war in Ukraine.

Awarding Ceremony for Winners of the “K-water Love of Water Contest”

K-water hosted an awarding ceremony where 104 entries submitted to the 2023 K-water Love of Water Contest were recognized on November 9 at its Daejeon headquarters. As the No. 1 water-themed contest in Korea, the contest is intended to raise public awareness of the importance and value of water amid accelerating climate change. The theme of the contest was “Our Stories of Water,” and more than 6,000 entries were submitted in 4 categories: painting, photo, illustration, and short-form video.

Discussion on technology cooperation to resolve water problems in Uzbekistan

K-water president Yun Seog-dae met with Dilshod Azimov, chairman of Uzsuvtaminot, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System of Uzbekistan, on November 14 at K-water’s headquarters in Daejeon to discuss the need for greater exchanges to deal with water issues facing Uzbekistan including the modernization of water management facilities. As cooperation partners, the two organizations reconfirmed their commitment to working together to modernize water supply and sewerage systems, improve the quality of water services, and train skilled water management workforce in Uzbekistan.

K-water’s investment via fund in local corporations in Daejeon exceeds KRW 30.0 billion

K-water, together with the Korea Business Angels Association, Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, and Daejeon Technopark, held the Meet-Up Day on November 15 to boost investment in water-related local corporations in celebration of the milestone of investment exceeding KRW 30.0 billion from a fund set up by K-water in local corporations operating in Daejeon. Under the agreement, a total of KRW 3.5 billion will be invested in select recipient companies. K-water has set up and invested in a fund since 2018 to foster local startups with high potential in Daejeon.

K-water Committee on Win-Win Cooperation for Water Management Governance

The 4th K-water Committee on Win-Win Cooperation for Water Management Governance(“the Committee”) has been launched. Run by K-water since 2014, the Committee aims to collect opinions from various walks of life on major water issues that impact people’s lives and use them to work out solutions. The 4th Committee composed of water experts has been expanded with outside members appointed to represent the general public and industries. The augmented Committee is expected to gather more diversified and objective opinions, thereby providing practical and effective solutions that can make tangible differences in the lives of people.

Labor and management run joint volunteering campaign in commemoration of 56th anniversary

K-water declared the 2 weeks before and after November 6—the company’s foundation day—as employee volunteering week in celebration of its 56th anniversary and ran the Warm Winter campaign. On November 16, some 70 employees including Ja-yeong Goo, head of the Planning Division, and chief vice chairman Ki-chan Park of K-water’s labor union visited Jung-ri Community Welfare Center in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon and made kimchi for socially disadvantaged local residents in a labor-management joint volunteering event. Employees at K-water branches across the nation participated in various volunteering projects customized for the needs of local communities, including donating briquettes for room heating, improving local welfare facilities and children’s welfare centers, and delivering free items for senior citizens living alone to stay warm throughout the winter.
