K-water and the Ministry of Environment have been working together to provide supports tailored to the different needs of individual regions in order to work out difficulties facing local residents enduring droughts during the dry season of spring since April 20. Yiokjido Island residents secured emergency water sources through public groundwater wells developed as part of the Groundwater Sharing Project. Some 1,000 local residents have now secured a stable supply of groundwater. K-water is working on the development of groundwater reservoirs on Ijakdo, Anmado Island and Bogildo Islands to secure additional water sources and thus overcome drought. K-water also provided 76,732 (77.9tons) bottles of tap water to residents in five areas in Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam Provinces where some parts of the provinces are suffering from water shortages as an emergency measure from January to March. K-water will continue to provide approximately 10,000 residents in six cities and counties in Jindo Island, Wando Island, Shinan & Hwasoon in Jeonnam Province, Andong in Gyeongnam Province, and Tonyeong in Gyeongnam Province with 60,000bottles of tap water (1.8L each), 25water trucks with a 15ton capacity and five services by a water supply ship with a 200-ton capacity until water shortages in these areas are resolved. • “AI-Based Water Quality Prediction Service for Daecheong Dam” to be developed

“AI-Based Water Quality Prediction Service for Daecheong Dam” proposed by K-water was selected as the finalist project on April 27 at the 2022 Digital Public Services Innovation Projects Contest organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and ICT.
As it is becoming increasingly difficult to predict the patterns of abnormalities occurring in water quality due to climate change, it is necessary to overcome the limitations of the water quality monitoring program for existing water sources and help respond to water quality issues in a timely manner. Therefore, the goal of the service is to create a system that can collect and analyze water quality data on Daecheong Dam water systems, and make predictions in real time by utilizing technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as AI.
Specifically, K-water plans to create a real-time, integrated system to manage and monitor data on the operation of intake stations and water purification plants whose water source is Dacheong Lake, and develop an AI-based algorithm that can predict the levels of odor-generating substances, manganese, and other harmful substances in the second half of the year. When the development of the service is completed, it will be publicly released to water supply managers and citizens on Water Round, a cloud-based digital water platform launched by K-water.
