  • K-water makes concerted efforts to realize the world’s first-rate water welfare, so that all people have access to safe and clean water. The following are some of the water welfare terminology associated with K-water, which is carrying out various projects to safely and reliably supply water to remote areas, which suffer from difficult access to water supply service!
Revenue water ratio(RWR)

The revenue water ratio refers to the percentage of water quantity that generates economic earnings without leakage from the total amount of supplied water. K-water increases the revenue water ratio by conducting local water supply system’s modernization project for municipalities, which have been under-funded from 2017.

Village waterworks

The term "village waterworks" refers to the waterworks prescribed by Presidential Decree, which is operated by the municipalities to provide processed water of not less than 20 but less than 500 cubic meters a day to not less than 100 but not more than 2500 persons or any affiliated waterworks. K-water supplies water to Sanghabun Village in Gangjin-gun, Jellanam-do, which are equipped with village waterworks, through the wide-area waterworks of Buntori Village in Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, so as to resolve water welfare blind spots.

Seawater desalination

Desalination is a process that eliminates mineral components including salt from seawater to convert it into potable, residential, or industrial water. K-water runs seawater desalination facilities through consignment in three municipalities – Boryeong-si in Chungcheongnam-do, Gunsan-si in Jeollabuk-do, and Sinan-gun in Jeollanam-do.

Smart water management

The “smart water management” refers to ICT-based efficient water management in which the whole water supply system can be monitored for water quality and quantity in real time and scientifically managed. Through an entrustment business pact with the Republic of Korea Air Force from November 2021, K-water has been undertaking the project to build the smart water management(SWM) system to realize water welfare by improving drinking water environment in the entire Air Force organization.

Water welfare

The term “water welfare” refers to supply clean water to areas without wide-area and local waterworks in order to improve people’s health and living environment. K-water is in charge of 48 percent of the country’s total water supply and waterworks, and undertakes various projects to realize Korea’s water welfare.
