K-water held an information session on innovative technology of the water industry and technology transfer

K-water held the information session on the development of water industry-innovating technology and technology transfers on October 5, 2022.
The session attended by about 100 people was geared to explain the policy and plan for the ‘Second Half 2022 SMEs Support System Contest’ that K-water is currently undertaking so as to facilitate the innovative growth of the water industry.
The semi-annual contest, after the first one held in March, consists of six areas in two categories of technological support for commercialization(ESG support, win-win model businesses, & K-water-registered technology) and technology development(benefit sharing, joint venture-driven technology development, & purchase-linked new product development). Notably, the contest has added two new areas, namely ‘ESG support’ and ‘win-win model businesses’ to further strengthen cooperation with the private sector.
Companies selected for support in the technology development area can utilize K-water’s infrastructure and technology, and receive financial support for the project cost to develop innovative technology. In addition, they can obtain support in finding buyers and expanding their market.

K-water and Sejong City’s joint campaign to promote the value of tap water

K-water and Sejong City ran a joint campaign to raise public awareness of the value of tap water at the 2022 Korea Garden Industry Expo held on October 7-9, 2022.
The campaign was designed to enhance confidence in tap water as clean and safe potable water by getting citizens involved in different experiences and to share the value that can be created from drinking tap water.
Under the theme, ‘Tap water saves the Earth’, the campaign included environment-friendly tap water drinking experience and stressed the environmental value of drinking tap water by reducing carbon emissions. It also included a blind taste test of tap water, the tap water promotion booth, and a tap water café. Upcycled products made of waste PET bottles were displayed at an environment-friendly program to promote the plastic-free movement and participate in the circular economy.
As a follow-up to the joint campaign, K-water will continue to work with other organizations in creating a tap water-drinking environment in which people can trust and drink tap water.

K-water formed an MOU with Sulawesi State in Central Indonesia on the development water and energy

K-water and Sulawesi State in Central Indonesia formed an MOU on the development of water and energy on October 7, 2022 at K-water’s head office in Daejeon. The MOU aims to promote exchanges of technology and human resources for the development project and cooperation in developing new hydroelectric power generation projects.
Under the MOU, K-water and Sulawesi plan to develop areas of comprehensive partnerships by developing, planning, designing, and building new projects in water supply, water resource infrastructure and new renewable energy using water.
With this MOU, K-water is enabling Sulawesi to reach its water-related SDGs and contribute to developing and promoting new renewable energy using water to cope with global climate crisis.
At the same time, K-water is further expanding cooperation in creating a new water supply system and building green infrastructure, and working on new renewable energy projects including the Bongka hydroelectric power generation public-private partnership.

‘Banguri Land where water meets art and culture

K-water and the Gyeonggi Culture Foundation held Banguri Land, a public art festival which was well-received as a great success at the Sihwa Narae Tidal Park in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do on October 15 to 17.
Under the theme, ‘Water Meets Art and Culture’, the project featured K-water’s mascot ‘Banguri’ and the exhibition of public artworks based on the story of ‘the Saemi family’ from an original story written by local artists working with the two organizations.
In addition, the project includes other programs including the ‘Banguri Library where people can read storybooks for free, a book concert with the authors for elementary school children, cultural and art education, upcycling experiences, as well as local artists’ music and other performances that the whole family can enjoy. Free copies of the original story <The Adventure of Banguri and Saemi> published through the project will be distributed to around 1,200 places, including public libraries and K-water culture museums nationwide.
The audio book and e-book of the story will be made available for free on K-water’s official YouTube channel and Internet bookstores including YES24.

‘Communication and Sharing’ for coexistence with local communities

In celebration of its 55th anniversary, K-water held the event titled ‘Communication and Sharing’ on October 19, 2022, at its Daejeon head office to get farmers near dams nationwide and local residents involved.
The event was joined by the Daejeon head office and all four river basins of the Hangang, Geumgang, Yeongsangang, Seomjingang, and Nakdonggang Rivers. It includes ‘Paldo Friends of Water Sharing Market’, a farmers’ market kicked off to help farmers near dams and programs that local residents are invited to enjoy The 5th edition of the Paldo Friends of Water Sharing Market has been opened this year alone with farmers participating from across the country to sell a variety of agricultural products, such as apples, grapes, salted fish, seafood, and sweet potatoes.
K-water bought a total of KRW 40 million worth of products at the market, which it donated to the socially disadvantaged class in each region. The farmers’ market has so far helped local farmers sell KRW 300 million worth of their products in total, helping boost their income.
On the same day, around 110 local residents were invited to the head office for an onsite tour. A music performance by local artists, traditional games, and other programs were a popular hit with the audience.

‘Essential(必) Environmental Fiesta’ with college students

K-water held ‘必 Environmental Fiesta’ where college students and citizens were invited on October 29 at the Banpo Hangang Park in Seoul. The event was organized to spread a public consensus that anyone can be pro-environment by undertaking the smallest of actions/ contributions to save Earth. The event included ▲plogging, ▲ the K-water Kids Water Love Space, ▲必 Environmental Coffee Truck, and ▲ promotion of K-water’s water-specific ESG management value.
K-water college student supporters distributed plogging kits to citizens visiting the Banpo Han River Park, and also presented environment-friendly souvenirs to the citizens who joined the plogging event and a certificate of donation to children from socially disadvantaged families for the sake of giving back to society.
K-water mugs to replace disposable cups and save the Earth were given to citizens who made a pledge to ESG implementation, while people carrying a tumbler were offered a free cup of coffee with tap water under the campaign to reduce the use of disposable items.
