K-water held the 2023 disaster response drill for a safe Korea.

On June 14, K-water held a disaster response drill together with the Ministry of Environment in order to prepare smoothly for complicated disaster situations such as interruption of water supply caused by large water pollution and drinking water incidents, which can happen anytime. The drill was carried out to react quickly to complicated disaster situations-for example, if oil flows into Daecheongho Lake due to the overturned oil tank vehicle, resulting in the shutdown of nearby Daecheong Intake Station and Cheongju Purification Plant, or if the Hyeondo Intake Station facilities are damaged by lightning, and so on. It was also attended by the public experience group. K-water plans to improve the disaster response system by thoroughly reviewing the crisis management guidelines to respond to complex water-related disaster situations.

K-water participated in the 2023 International Exhibition on Environmental Technology & Green Energy.

On June 7, K-water participated in the ‘2023 International Exhibition on Environmental Technology & Green Energy’ held at COEX in Seoul. As co-host, K-water carried out various activities for the exhibition including operating the booth to promote the support system for innovative SMEs in the water industry and SME support exhibition hall, holding purchase consultation meetings, and providing empowerment education for water-related company employees. The K-water promotional hall operated by the Water Industry Innovation Dept. actively publicized various water industry company support policies that assist a company in each growth stage and provided ‘the Ministry of Environment’s 2023 empowerment education for water-related company employees.’

K-water reopened the Songsan Green City Observatory in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

On June 1, the K-water Songsan Green City Observatory was reopened after the facility improvement work. Founded in 2013, the observatory with one basement floor and three floors aboveground (40 m in height, 100 m above sea level) celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. While the K-water Songsan Project Group implemented a temporary closing period to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it carried out facility improvement work by replacing glass windows in the observatory, greatly improving the conditions to enjoy an open view of Songsan Green City and the area around Sihwaho Lake. The Songsan Green City construction project implemented by K-water is scheduled to be completed by 2030 in an area of 55.63㎢. The reopened Songsan Green City Observatory is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during weekdays.

K-water discussed the cooperation plan for reconstruction with Ukraine.

On June 14, first deputy minister Vasyl Shrkurakov of the Ministry of Restoration of Ukraine visited the site of Busan Eco Delta City to discuss the mutual cooperation plan related to the reconstruction of infrastructure in Ukraine with K-water. First Deputy Minister Vasyl Shrkurakov toured the construction site of Busan Eco Delta City, which was designated as a Smart City National Pilot City, and experienced the latest Smart City innovative technologies of Wellness center, AI sports center, Smart Home, and so on. K-water plans to cooperate actively with Ukraine in rebuilding the country based on K-water’s expertise and experiences in the construction and operation of Smart City.

K-water carried out facility inspection for the successful hosting of the World Scout Jamboree.

On June 15, K-water performed inspection on the water supply facility to hold the ‘2023 World Scout Jamboree successfully in Saemangeum’, Korea. K-water Vice president Jeong Gyeong-yoon visited the Saemangeum area where the World Scout Jamboree will take place to inspect the overall situation of implementing the water supply project and discuss the cooperation plan with the persons concerned including the Jamboree organizing committee. As the water supply facility whose construction started at the end of February and finished early June is a key facility for the successful hosting of the event, K-water plans to prepare thoroughly for stable, clean water supply by performing the finishing works including the discharge before the event starts.

K-water will provide all-out support to reduce green algae.

K-water carries out comprehensive green algae management to reduce algal bloom and strengthen the green algae response ability based on the area where algal bloom occurs frequently in summer. As the mass growth of green algae is expected to continue due to the abnormally high temperature this year, K-water is collaborating with related organizations including the Ministry of Environment to establish the response system. It is also striving to remove and respond to algal blooms using the facilities developed with the 4th industrial technology such as AI, while conducting regular monitoring centered on Nakdonggang River.
