K-water Technologies Ready to Help in Ukrainian Rebuilding

The ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War destroyed infrastructures in many Ukrainian cities. One of the latest war-caused disasters was the destruction of Kakhovka Dam in Southern Ukraine as it caused the submersion of many villages and farming fields, affecting the lives of many Ukrainian people. A total of 25 water resources facilities, including Kakhovka Dam, are said to have been damaged seriously during the war. The war damaged several thousands of public facilities across Ukraine, requiring urgent restoration as about 700 of these are related to water use. The situation led K-water to sign a business agreement with a Ukrainian public hydroelectric enterprise on July 26, heralding its participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine. The agreement is regarded as a significant event regarding the recovery of Ukraine as it was the first business agreement ever signed between a Korean public corporation with a public Ukrainian enterprise. It is also meaningful as K-water became the first Korean public organization to conclude an agreement with a Ukrainian counterpart after the Korean President’s visit to Poland, becoming the first case of initiating cooperation between the two countries.

Ukraine Rising Again with Support from Korea in Water Service and Urban Development

K-water is currently preparing a plan for the structural safety test and restoration measures for Kakhovka Dam by leveraging its technologies and capacities related to the management of water and dams accumulated for the last fifty years. The company is also providing humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian people suffering immensely from the war, supplying to them, for example, clean drinking water treated by the mobile water purification facilities it sent to the war-affected cities. K-water plans to offer its technologies required for the modernization of water resources facilities in Ukraine and the improved system for the management of water-related facilities. K-water has also been designated recently as the operator for the establishment of the ‘Masterplan for the Ukrainian Smart City Uman,’ which shows that the company is expanding the scope of its cooperation with Ukraine to the field of urban development.
