The total storage capacity of Soyanggang Dam is about 2.9 billion tons, an amount that can fill about 1.4 million swimming pools authorized by the World Aquatics (formerly FINA), each being 50 meters in length, 21 meters in width, and 1.98 meters in depth. It is also the amount that can be consumed by the entire Korean population for over half a year.
The Soyanggang Dam supplies up to 3.32 million tons of water a day. It is an amount that can fill over 2.2 billion 1.5-liter bottles, corresponding, according to the daily water use by the entire Korean population (approx. 302 liters, ‘2021 statistics by the Ministry of Environment’), to the amount used by about 11 million people per day (population of Seoul: approx. 9.41 million as of 2022).
The catchment area of Soyanggang Dam is 2,703㎢, almost equivalent to the size of Seoul, Incheon and Ulsan combined,* and larger than Jeju-do (1,850㎢).

The Soyanggang Dam generates 465GWh of clean energy on average every year since the completion of its power plant in 1973. It is an amount that can be used by a population of about 435,000 for a whole year. The amount is large enough to meet the annual demand from the total population of Sejong-si, and reduce about 210,000 tons of greenhouse gas annually, with the effect of planting about 36 million pine trees spans an area four times larger than Bukhansan Mountain.
According to the statistics issued by the city administration of Chuncheon-si, the Soyanggang Dam is visited by about 1.98 million people annually (as of 2020), larger than the number of visitors to Seoraksan Mountain (1.58 million as of 2020) by over 25%.

* The equatorial circumference of Earth: 40,075km 7.5 turns
The ratio of out-of-town visitors in the business districts around Soyanggang Dam reached 58% as of 2020, with the highest ratio of out-of-town visitors attributed to the major business districts in Chuncheon-si.
