Hwaseong AI Water Purification Plant chosen as “Global Lighthouse Network” at the World Economic Forum

The Hwaseong Water Purification Plant was chosen as the 2023 Global Lighthouse Network at the World Economic Forum on December 14 local time. The recognition is given to companies that boldly adopt a core technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution and lead the future of the global manufacturing industry just like a lighthouse sheds light on the path for ships to sail forward. Being the first water management facility in the world to be recognized as a “Global Lighthouse,” the plant, as a signature model for digital transition in waterworks, is expected to lead not only the domestic waterworks advancement but also the global water market.

President Yun makes a seasonal tour of major facilities

K-water president Yun Seog-dae visited on December 1, 2023 the construction site of Wonjucheon Dam, the first dam to be built at the request of local residents scheduled for completion in 2024. Ahead of the visit, President Yun also visited the Hoengseong Wonju Branch Office and checked key facilities including Hoengseong Dam and Seongjeon Water Purification Plant for wintertime preparedness. The Wonjucheon Dam currently under construction is a flood-control facility with water storage capacity of 1.8 million tons, which will help prevent floods at the lower stream of Wonjucheon River. The Wonjucheon river basin has been highly susceptible to human casualties and property damages due to frequent torrential rains, and the local community requested that the dam be constructed to cope with chronic flood issues.

K-water and local innovation organizations launch “Daejeon Innovation Forum”

K-water and local innovation organizations based in Daejeon launched the Daejeon Innovation Forum on December 1, 2023 to support Daejeon’s transformation into a global innovation city and mobilize the local resources of the city. Consisting of K-water, Chungnam National University, Daejeon Metropolitan City Government, Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology for Enterprise and People, Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, and Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam branch offices of the Bank of Korea, the forum was launched as part of efforts to support the government policy of promoting the “new local era.” K-water intends to identify specific tasks and implement them by forming a network of local innovation leaders.

K-water and Chungnam National University support the growth of high-potential water companies

K-water and Chungnam National University signed an agreement on December 5 to enhance the competitiveness of the water industry and foster the growth of high-potential water companies and jointly held “CNUxK-water Start-up Day,” an event aimed at invigorating the local startup ecosystem. The two parties reached a profound consensus on the need to expand cooperation in order to facilitate the growth of promising water companies and raise their competitiveness. The agreement, based on the consensus, aims for the two parties to work together to foster locally based unicorn companies by helping candidate companies throughout the entire growth cycle including technological and market development.

K-water, subsidiaries speed up water-specialized ESG management

K-water and subsidiaries K-water OMC and K-water Tech held the parent-subsidiary joint declaration ceremony on December 12 for the spread and implementation of ESG management at K-water’s headquarters. The declaration was intended to contribute to making a better world through water and sustainable growth of each organization. At the ceremony, the three organizations made a pledge for ESG management; building upon the declaration, K-water plans to work closely together with its subsidiaries and provide practical support to help them introduce and implement ESG management.

K-water wins the grand prize in the public sector at the Web Award Korea 2023

K-water’s water information portal MyWater received an award on December 14 at the Web Award Korea 2023 hosted by the Korea Internet Professionals Association (KIPFA). The Web Award Korea awards innovative and outstanding websites and mobile apps based on review and deliberation by a judging panel of 4,000 Internet professionals. K-water’s water information portal MyWater won the grand prize in the public sector at the Web Award Korea 2023. The portal offers key water information in a timely and convenient manner based on the digital transformation of various kinds of water information.
