K-water Checks Water Supply Facilities Ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays

K-water president Yun Seog-dae joined an inspection tour on February 11 to ensure stable water supply ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays. He visited the Jeungpyeong Modernization Project site in Chungbuk-do Province, Cheongju Water Purification Plant, and Gwangju Water Purification Plant in Gyeonggi-do Province to perform a safety inspection on the water supply facilities and their overall operation. The inspection is intended to prevent water supply accidents including water leaks by conducting proactive safety checkups as the water supply facility operation environment deteriorates amid repeated cold waves and thawing, to ensure that people have no problem using water during the holidays when water demand sharply rises.
In line with the enhanced public awareness of water safety due to climate crisis and the resulting changes to the water environment, K-water is also working to produce and supply high-quality tap water by employing cutting-edge technologies including smart water pipe network management, AI-based leak detection, and advanced water purification. In addition, K-water is improving water pipe networks and water purification facilities for 75 local governments experiencing difficulty with water quality control due to aged water pipe networks.

2024, the Year of Sihwa Lake: from a Miracle to an Opportunity

K-water held a “Sihwa Lake Area Policy Coordination Council meeting” on February 22 with the local governments of three cities in Gyeonggi-do Province—Siheung, Ansan, and Hwaseong—and declared 2024 as the Year of Sihwa Lake in a ceremony. Aside from the announcement of declaration during the ceremony, a performance was held featuring the joint slogan “From a Miracle to an Opportunity,” which suggests the limitless possibilities and potential of the lake.
Marking the 30th year of Sihwa Lake, the Sihwa Lake Area Policy Coordination Council will focus on the lake’s environmental, historical, cultural, social, and economic values and carry out Sihwa Lake’s 30th-Anniversary Project. The joint project scheduled for October is intended to put Sihwa Lake in the spotlight as a successful model for overcoming environmental pollution and raise its global profile. The goal is to grow Sihwa Lake as a leading local brand symbolizing sustainable development and cooperation among local communities. In this context, the Council is planning to organize marine leisure activities, festivals, and exhibitions to attract more people to Sihwa, the largest man-made lake in Korea.
