K-water booth for water-based renewable energy

The 20th International Green Energy Expo was held on April 12 at EXCO in Daegu Metropolitan City. Marking the 20th year, the expo is Korea’s largest and the world’s 10th largest new renewable energy expo with over 300 companies from 25 countries participating, making this year’s event the largest in scale so far.
As the No. 1 renewable energy corporation in S. Korea, K-water set up a booth to promote water-based renewable energy, and presented innovative technologies related to new renewable energy. The booth featured information and videos about new renewable energy projects including floating solar panels, hydrothermal energy, green hydrogen and tidal power generation.
After having installed floating solar panels on dams in 2011, it has been managing 49MW generated from the panels. K-water plans to promote and support the use of hydrothermal energy which was recognized as new renewable energy in 2019. It is also conducting validation pilot projects to make green hydrogen through electrolysis of water at its Seongnam Water Purification Plant, and is also the operator of the Sihwa Tidal Power Plant, the world’s largest tidal power plant.

Academic conference and tech tour at Hapcheon Dam

K-water held an academic conference and a tech tour at Hapcheon Dam in Gyeongsangna-do from April 12 to 14. The Ministry of Environment, K-water, officials from Hapcheon County and floating solar panel companies including Hanhwa Q Cells and Scotra attended the events.
On April 12, K-water hosted a conference on ‘the role of new renewable energy to achieve carbon neutrality in Hapcheon County’ at the auditorium of Hapcheon Museum. The conference featured presentations on the results of hydro power generation and floating solar panel as a major renewable energy source and technology development trends, followed by discussions on the future of renewable energy.
On April 13 and 14, K-water and the Ministry of Environment 'jointly conducted a ‘tech tour of the floating solar panels on the Hapcheon Dam’. During the tour, floating solar panel manufacturers and experts from home and abroad and foreign buyers visited the floating solar panels and learned about resident-participatory energy projects.
