In 2013, the government established the public data portal to provide scattered public data from various institutions in one place. Diverse forms of data, including file data and open APIs, are offered, operating as user-friendly services for citizens to utilize. The count of publicly available data that citizens can access and utilize has been steadily increasing, with K-water playing a significant role in this regard. K-water has set a goal to expand the count of open public data to 324 by 2025 and has achieved the highest 'Excellent' rating for four consecutive years in the government's 'Public Data Provision and Operation Assessment'.
K-water's expansion of public data openness not only allows citizens to access the desired data more accurately and transparently but also fulfills citizens' right to know and enhances public services. Particularly, in alignment with the K-ESG guidelines' disclosure criteria, K-water has provided ESG information that complies with SOC public enterprise standards, disclosing 492 ESG-related items, which corresponds to 135% compared to the average for SOC public enterprises. The disclosure period has also been extended from the previous 3 years to 5 years. K-water revamped its website into an ESG framework, enhancing accessibility to ESG information, which contributed to obtaining the top-grade(AA) in the 2022 ESG institutional evaluation.
Centered around citizen-oriented information disclosure, K-water analyzed big data consisting of 462 instances of information disclosure requests and keywords from 70,000 website searches in 2021. Based on this analysis, K-water opened up public data that aligns with the information citizens are seeking. As a result, K-water has achieved an Excellent rating in the comprehensive assessment of information disclosure conducted by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security for three consecutive years until 2022. It has also been recognized as a distinguished case of disclosure selected by the Ministry of Planning and Finance. The expansion of public data opening will support water management solution development utilizing public data, K-water's startup cultivation programs, and more. It is anticipated to be widely utilized, including the development of applications closely tied to citizens' lives through citizen participation initiatives and public-private collaboration to actively explore user-centered data.
