K-water & Samsung Electronics sign an agreement on the removal of green trade barriers and attainment of carbon neutrality

On October 5, K-water and Samsung Electronics signed an agreement to remove barriers to green trade and achieve carbon neutrality at Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station. Through this, K-water will supply renewable energy produced at Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station to Samsung Electronics through a power purchase agreement (PPA). The two companies will work together to lift the barriers to green trade and implement various joint projects including co-participation in the renewable energy development project at Sihwa Lake. The agreement is significant for having a public enterprise and prominent exporter work together to supply renewable energy as part of their efforts to lower barriers to green trade.

K-water was selected as the trusted employer of the disabled in 2023

On October 4, K-water was selected as the 2023 True Company (an equal opportunity employer of the disabled), and won the ‘Gold Prize’ awarded by the Ministry of Employment & Labor and the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities (KEAD). The True Company award is given to a corporation or enterprise in recognition of its commitment and efforts to promote the employment of the disabled. Each year, KEAD selects the winner to receive the Minister of Employment & Labor Award. K-water has revised its employment regulations to lower the employment barriers for people with disabilities, and held an idea creation contest among all its employees to develop new job positions for the disabled segment including dam drone inspection engineers, renewable energy guards (watchers), and librarians. This award was earned in recognition of its consistent efforts to promote and improve equal opportunity employment.

K-water earned 2023 Chris Binnie Award for ‘Sustainable Water Management’

On October 13, K-water was honored with an award in the sustainable water management category at the ‘2023 Chris Binnie Awards’ hosted by ICE in the main auditorium of Westminster. The Chris Binnie Award commends feats that have benefited society by improving sustainable water management. K-water was bestowed high praise for its contributions for the betterment of society in promoting and spreading renewable energy generation with water, including tidal power generation at Sihwa Tidal Power Station, and implementing various eco-friendly green projects and sustainable water management.

K-water & UNCPGA discuss global water issues.

On October 18, K-water invited 20 members of the UN Council of the Presidents of the General Assembly (UNCPGA) to a special event at Ara Waterway to discuss global water issues. The UNCPGA consists of current and former UN presidents who gather together to discuss major global issues on peace, security and development. During the tour of Ara Waterway, K-water explained the history of Korea’s water management and its preeminent digital water management technology. The participants showed their keen interest in the latest technology including digital twin, AI-based water treatment plants and smart city.

K-water & Naver Corp. sign a PPA for renewable energy.

On October 25, K-water and Naver Corp. signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to allow Naver 1784, the corporate headquarters, to use renewable energy produced at the 2nd Yongdam Hydroelectric Power Plant of Yongdam Dam in Jinan, Jeonbuk Province. The formation of a PPA entails a power supplier and a target company requiring electricity generated from renewable energy directly arranging a power supply transaction. The target company or buyer can secure a stable supply of renewable energy without being affected by price fluctuations to facilitate GHG emission reductions for the goal of carbon neutrality. The 2nd Yongdam Hydroelectric Power Plant is capable of generating 13GWh a year, the entire amount of which will be supplied to Naver Corp. As a result, the company is expected to reduce 6,000 tons in GHG gas emissions.

K-water participates in the digital twin platform project in Saudi Arabia.

K-water will participate in the digital twin platform project as a part of Saudi Arabia’s grand digital transformation project, based on Naver Corp.’s digital twin technology. K-water will get involved in areas such as flood response, urban tasks and urban planning in five major cities in Saudi Arabia, and in particular, will contribute to creating a flood response system in Jeddah, the second biggest city in Saudi Arabia. Participation in the project will allow K-water to enhance its global competitive edge in the digital platform arena by capitalizing on the public-private technology cooperation with Naver Corp. and seizing new opportunities to work on follow-up projects in the Middle East.
