01Signing of Agreement for Eco-Friendly Use of Abandoned Riverbeds in Danyang-gun
K-water signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Chungcheongbuk-do and Danyang-gun on June 10 to promote the realization of a sustainable, eco-friendly local environment. Danyang-gun attracts approximately 10 million visitors annually thanks to major tourist attractions such as Gosu Cave and Mancheonha Skywalk within close distances from the city center, but suffers from lack of basic infrastructure. In this context, the agreement was initiated to utilize systematically the idle resources around Chungju Dam, promote eco-friendly regional development, and improve the quality of life for local residents. The agreement outlines joint efforts including financial and administrative support to ensure the successful implementation of green projects on abandoned riverbeds, administrative assistance for the use and sale of land associated with Danyang's development initiatives, and broader support for regional development needs. “We will continue to cooperate actively so that dam-adjacent areas like Danyang can grow into world-class regions,” K-water CEO Yun Seog-dae vowed.

02Large-Scale Hydropower Supply to SK hynix
K-water signed a renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SK hynix on May 30 to supply green energy generated from Namgang Dam’s hydropower plant. K-water began directly supplying eco-friendly energy to SK hynix on June 1 through this PPA model. Located in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, Namgang Hydropower Plant has a capacity of 18 MW and produces 66,954 MWh of renewable energy annually—enough to power approximately 23,000 households each year. This agreement marks the largest hydropower-based PPA that K-water has undertaken, and it is expected to support SK hynix in reducing carbon emissions and achieving RE100 goals; thus contributing to overcoming trade barriers and enhancing global competitiveness in the semiconductor industry.

K-water officials listened carefully to questions from young participants on local-specific activities and K-water’s core breakthrough technologies and communicated with them directly and actively, contributing to meaningful dialogue. The youth were also introduced to the Digital Twin water management system at the Integrated Water Management Situation Room, which highlights the importance of scientific responses to climate-induced water disasters. The program brings together college students and young professionals from fields such as engineering, finance, and education. They are expected to bring new perspective to K-water’s key projects and tasks by participating in field experiences and meetings over the course of a year starting July. -
04Participation in the 46th International Exhibition on Environmental Technology and Green Energy (ENVEX)
ENVEX 2025, Korea’s largest environmental exhibition, was held at COEX in Seoul from June 11 to 13. Celebrating its 46th year since its launch in 1979, ENVEX is the country’s oldest and most renowned environmental technology expo.
