K-water: a global water corporation leading the response to climate crisis

Following its declaration of its new vision of “a global water corporation leading the response to climate crisis” based on the direction of innovation across its business and management, K-water will focus on implementing strategies in 2024. President Yun urged K-water employees to" do their best to keep people safe and happy through comprehensive water management.” He also unveiled K-water’s ambitious plan to rise as a global water corporation that uses water and energy to promote the growth of corporations and local communities and support the recovery and dynamic growth of the national economy.

A pledge to “new leadership of water”

A training session was held on January 18 and 19 for newly appointed department heads who will lead the “new era of water” and attended by President Yun and 33 department heads, the first new department heads ever appointed by the president since his inauguration. During the sessions, they shared their ideas on the leadership and mindset they need to realize the new vision of “a global corporation leading the response to climate crisis.” The highlights of the session included the presentation of certificates of appointment, dialogue with the CEO, and lectures on leadership, role of leaders for a fair K-water, and image and speech skills for an effective, respected leader.

Testbed agreement to support the development of innovative water-related technology

K-water signed a testbed agreement with private companies operating in Korea and other countries including Tomorrow Water (Capture 6) on January 14 in Los Angeles, USA to support the development of innovative water technologies. Under the agreement, K-water will provide the pilot plant for the Daesan seaside seawater desalination facility as a testbed that is currently under construction to supply industrial water to manufacturers in the northwestern region of Chungnam Province, which has been experiencing chronic water shortages. The testbed will be used to help test and demonstrate the technology to reprocess high-saline wastewater discharged after seawater desalination and wastewater discharged from seawater desalination using carbon dioxide from the air.

K-water works with Germany to develop the world’s top-tier water resources satellite

K-water and German Aerospace Center signed on January 24 an agreement for the development of technology to optimize the quality of image radar of water resources satellites in order to improve the ability to respond to floods, droughts, and other water disasters. By signing the agreement on joint international research to develop key technology for the qualification and improvement of water resources satellites, K-water intends to secure top-quality image radar and build a sophisticated technology system. The agreement is expected to allow K-water to create a stable operation environment for a water resources satellite scheduled for launch in 2025 and secure its status as a global leader in water resources satellite

Urban development and reconstruction of water management systems in Horodok, Ukraine

K-water and Horodok City, Lviv Oblast of Ukraine signed on January 24 an agreement for urban development in Ukraine and cooperation for water management. As the second agreement after the first one concluded last November with Bucha City, the agreement includes technological cooperation for urban development and modernization of Ukraine’s waterworks and knowledge and knowhow sharing between the two parties. Going forward, K-water plans to work with private corporations on exploring overseas markets and lead Korea’s green exports through global projects including urban reconstruction in Ukraine.

Largest budget spending ever ahead of Lunar New Year holidays

K-water will spend 226.0 billion won of its 2024 budget ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays in line with the government policy of boosting the economy. The scheduled budget spending is the largest amount ever, which is 2.3 times or 125.5 billion won more than the average amount spent in the recent 3 years. To spend the budget amount ahead of schedule, K-water will pay up to 80% of the contract amounts up front and pay up to 100% of the downpayment guarantee fees; thus easing the financial burden for contractors.
