Digital Transformation: Ushering in a New Era of Water Supply Management

From the treatment plant to our faucets, a remarkable transformation takes place within the labyrinth of pipes. But what happens along these long, unseen pipes? Could there be any contamination or water leaks? In a groundbreaking move, K-water has unveiled innovative technologies that establish a new paradigm for global water management. These cutting-edge solutions encompass the entire water supply process, enabling proactive monitoring, control, and response to ensure reliable and sustainable water supply.
As one of K-water's three super-gap technologies, Smart Water Network Management (SWNM) represents a revolutionary solution harnessing IoT and AI to transform water distribution systems. By seamlessly integrating these cutting-edge technologies, SWNM effectively addresses water leaks and enables proactive management strategies; thus ensuring resilient, sustainable water supply for all. This groundbreaking super-gap technology—a culmination of successful domestic modernization efforts—represents the pinnacle of optimal water distribution network management.
K-water prioritizes minimizing water loss and preventing accidents or malfunctions. To achieve this, K-water has established comprehensive water distribution network diagrams and systems. By analyzing data on the status of water supply facilities including revenue water ratio and water supply volumes, K-water strives to optimize water flow and water quality management. K-water has also adopted cutting-edge technologies such as AI-powered leak detection, water quality monitoring devices, and real-time water pressure control. This proactive approach, coupled with real-time anomaly monitoring via sensors, effectively reduces the likelihood of accidents and their consequences.

Pioneering a New Era of Water Supply with Tailored Solutions

The adoption of SWNM technology begins with a thorough evaluation of water supply infrastructure, operational practices, and revenue water ratio. Next, depending on the objectives and levels of expertise, a customized combination consisting of seven key technologies should be established: investigation and analysis, block construction, leak management, water pressure management, network maintenance, system implementation, and water quality management. This multi-stage management approach drives a range of benefits including enhanced efficiency of the water supply system. With SWNM, we expect up to 7,000 cubic meters of water to be saved per kilometer of pipeline annually. This substantial reduction in leak not only results in cost savings in water production but also offers the opportunity to extend the water supply to currently unserved areas. Moreover, it enhances the stability of supply by maintaining proper water pressure even in unexpected disaster situations. Our real-time monitoring of individual units within the water distribution network ensures prompt repairs upon detecting anomalies, thereby safeguarding clean, high-quality water across all service areas.
As of 2022, South Korea boasts of an impressive tap water supply rate of 97.8%. For advanced nations in tap water management, however, a high supply rate alone is not the sole measure of success. This is where SWNM technology comes into play, adding a crucial layer of quality excellence.
K-water has found solutions to water shortage issues exacerbated by the climate crisis through digital integration. Beyond innovation, K-water embodies water management expertise, public trust in water quality, and enhanced water welfare. As we look to the future, we can confidently expect K-water's transformation into a global water leader.
