01 K-water agrees to supply eco-friendly floating photovoltaic solar energy from Hapcheon Dam to Lotte Chemical
K-water and Lotte Chemical signed on October 11 an MOU on PPA as Phase II of the Hapcheon Dam Floating Photovoltaic Power Project. In Phase II of the Hapcheon Dam Floating Photovoltaic Power Project, a power generation facility with 20㎿ capacity will be built on the surface of Hapcheon Dam in Daebyeong-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. The facility is capable of generating 26,618㎿h per year on average, enough for approximately 10,000 households to use for a year.
According to the MOU, K-water will provide renewable energy generated from floating solar panels to Lotte Chemical under a PPA, the first one involving floating solar energy. 02 30th anniversary of Lake Sihwa
K-water held a ceremony on October 10 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Lake Sihwa and declared its vision for Sihwa District.
Since its creation in 1994, the artificial lake has faced major setbacks due to wastewater discharges from nearby factories but was eventually reborn as an ecological treasure trove where nature and humans coexist peacefully. In the process, K-water has been deeply involved in getting the lake where it is today by operating the tidal power plant on the lake through participation in the governance, building the Banwol/Sihwa National Industrial Complex as a major industrial and logistics hub of Seoul and Gyeonggi area, and creating “Sihwa Multi-Techno Valley,” a hi-tech city in Ansan and Siheung. The Lake Sihwa Tidal Power Plant produces 552GWh of clean energy a year, enough for some 50,000 people to use for a year. The clean energy is expected to be a key resource in the era of carbon economy following the designation of RE 100 Special District by Gyeonggi-do Province. At the ceremony, K-water shared the major milestones of the past 30 years since the creation of Lake Sihwa and suggested ways to respond to a shift in urban paradigm and promote a balance among industry, tourism, and environment.
