The joy of sharing with others grows when done together

As the consumption of clothing continues to increase, the issue of waste treatment is becoming a serious problem. In Korea alone, approximately 80,000 tons of clothing waste are generated every year. This problem is further worsening as a lot of people in Korea tend to be fashion-conscious and quick to buy and throw away clothes.
Against this backdrop, K-water ran the “K-water Used Clothes Donation Campaign” for two weeks starting March 4. K-water employees volunteered to donate used workwear, baby clothes, and outdated clothing items—all of which weighed around 2,100kg—and they were put in 99 boxes.
Over 40 members of the Love for Water Volunteer Group sorted the donated clothes by condition and use for two days. Clothes in good condition will be donated to charities and residents in overseas areas where K-water is operating. Some of the clothes were delivered to the Solomon Islands and the Philippines on March 21 and 26, respectively. More clothes will be donated subsequently to Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Clothes that have been damaged or impossible to reuse will be used as heat-insulating material to prevent the freezing and rupture of water meters, or donated to animal shelters.
Going forward, K-water will remain actively involved in social contribution activities on a continuing basis and practice its philosophy of promoting “sustainable co-existence between people and nature” and “goodness for society through co-existence and co-prosperity” in order to fulfill its social responsibility as a global water company and a public organization as well.
