01 K-water steps up exports for the waterworks project in New Clark City
A group of senior officials from the Base Conversion Development Authority (BCDA)—a government agency responsible for the Philippines’ New Clark City development project—made visits to Korea’s core water management facilities including Hwaseong AI Water Purification Plant and Songsan Green City on March 13. At the request of the Philippine government, K-water launched a feasibility study in August 2024 and offered a proposal for the New Clark City waterworks project, emerging as a major water management partner for the country. Under the project, K-water will create a Smart Water Network Management system (SWNM) as well as AI water purification plants to reduce loss from water leak and ensure stable water supply. Taking the visit by BCDA officials as an opportunity to prove its capacity as a core partner for the New Clark City waterworks project, K-water plans to expand the scope of cooperation to urban development down the road. K-water CEO Yun Seog-dae met with the BCDA officials and briefed them on the projects in progress. Yun also expressed his wish for continuing cooperation with the Philippines and focused on building trust; thus raising the possibility of cooperation between the two parties.

02 Algal Bloom Technology Expo
K-water held the Algal Bloom Technology Expo on March 18. The tech event was attended by over 150 people including experts from the private sector, government, academe, and industry to discuss ways of effectively preventing and reducing algal blooms. Algal bloom is caused by a combination of factors including high temperature and influx of pollutants. Recently, climate change has been increasing the frequency and severity of algal blooms. In response, experts from the private sector, government, academe, and industry held this event to find technological solutions to raise the effectiveness and utility of algae management. The expo consisted of three parts: topic presentations by experts; presentations on new technologies developed by private companies; and discussion. The expo featured new technologies for effectively controlling algae from preventing to coping with algal blooms.

03 MOU for the Promotion of Investment and Development of Saemangeum
K-water and Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA) signed on March 11 an MOU on cooperation for the promotion of investment and development of Saemangeum. Built as a sea wall in 2010, Saemangeum has been developed to become a regional development hub in the era of balanced regional growth. Under the MOU, K-water will share its successful experiences in Sihwa District with SDIA, which is currently making a framework plan to make Saemangeum more competitive and attractive as a business location. Furthermore, the MOU is expected to help the two parties create synergistic effects through exchanges of technology, information and manpower, and joint projects including eco-friendly urban development and new renewable energy development projects.

04 K-water to expand K-Test Bed Infrastructure
K-water and Daejeon City signed an MOU on March 17 to support K-Test Bed demonstrations and overseas business expansion by Korean corporations. K-Test Bed is an integrated national platform that allows SMEs and venture businesses to use infrastructure managed by public and private organizations in order to support the development of innovative technology. Under the MOU, the two organizations will work together on expanding the demonstration infrastructure by integrating the K-Test Bed and the demonstration platform run by Daejeon City to support the growth of local businesses with innovative technology effectively. The K-Test Bed project currently focuses on facilities managed by public organizations, but K-water plans to have local governments, large private corporations, and other regionally based public corporations participate in the K-Test Bed project.

05 K-water supplies hydrothermal energy to an apartment complex
K-water, Gyeonggi-do provincial government, and Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation signed on March 11 an MOU to work together and promote “the zero-energy bill apartment project” with focus on the use of hydrothermal energy. Under this pilot project, K-water will use hydrothermal energy to meet the cooling and heating energy demand for the selected 604 households out of a total of 1,797 houses to be built in Gyosan Public Residential District in Hanam. This will be the nation’s first hydrothermal energy project for apartments. By using hydrothermal sources, energy cost will be reduced to half of the existing cost with carbon emissions expected to fall by around 52%.
