Rest in the Bosom of Mother Nature

The arboreum offers a great view of the West Sea as seen through Korean Black Pines that stay green all four seasons. At Cheollipo Arboretum, your eyes get the double pleasure of seeing plants and the refreshing sea at the same time as you walk around.
As soon as you step into the arboretum, you will be greeted by the scents and sights of flowers and trees. Byeong-gal Min(Carl Ferris Miller), the founder of the arboretum who was born in Pennsylvania, USA but moved to Korea, spent 40 years growing the forest in Taean. He was dedicated to taking care of the arboretum until the last day of his life. His 40 years of dedication turned what was a vast empty field into an arboretum with the widest variety of plant species in the country. The flowers and trees in the arboretum are vibrant and vivid in colors. Perhaps, it is Min’s love for nature that keeps them so fresh and lively.
Walking around the 65,623㎡ Miller Garden, you will likely need to take some rest at the shelters set up across the garden. Among the shelters, the view of the sunset you watch at Noeul Shelter where artworks are on display is simply breathtaking. The hiking trail is divided into nine sections, each of which offers a uniquely entertaining package of things to see. Curious children have their curiosity satisfied by watching new and exotic plants rarely found elsewhere, followed by adults who take their time to enjoy a mind-soothing walk. The trail continues to entertain both kids and adults with flowers and plants from beginning to end, making the long walk so much fun.
Cheollipo Arboretum also runs the Garden Stay. It is not merely an accommodation facility as it offers a unique opportunity to feel nature with all of your five senses. The Garden Stay includes educational and forest docent-led programs designed to help people gain better understanding of plants and nature as they walk around the garden and observe plants and trees and meditate, ultimately having the experience of becoming one with nature. Of the four seasons, spring is the perfect time for a visit to Cheollipo Arboretum and the Garden Stay as plants are in their best costume. If you travel in Taean, the arboretum should be part of your itinerary.

The World of Dinosaurs Unfolds Before Your Eyes

Anmyeondo Jurassic Museum is a dream come true for kids and a magical place that takes adults back to their childhood. As soon as you enter the museum, you will be overwhelmed by the giant skeleton of a tyrannosaurus. The dinosaur fossils on display make you imagine the fossils coming alive as real dinosaurs stomping around. Each floor features dinosaurs and natural history of different ages: 1st floor for the Mesozoic era and Geologic Time Scale; 2nd floor for the marine reptiles of the Mesozoic era and mammals of the Cenozoic era; and 3rd floor for modern animals and special exhibitions. The dinosaur fossil excavation program lets kids experience a day in the life of an archeologist, with the VR program taking them on an adventure to explore the world of dinosaurs. Designed to help children use their imagination to the fullest, these programs also help them learn about different career paths. The museum also has play spaces for kids as well as a café for adults to enjoy a conversation over a drink, making it one of the highly recommended attractions for a family trip.
At the Jurassic Park close to the museum are many different sculptures that you can use as background when you take photos. Among the sculptures are Robot Taekwon V from the popular animated film of the 1970s and Bumblebee from Transformers, a sci-fi movie featuring fascinating transformations. Photos taken by your family in the giant dinosaur photo zone will remain as memories that will last forever like fossils, and memories that kids make at the museum and the park will surely last a lifetime.
