① Construction of a hydrothermal energy cluster

Hydrothermal energy using deep water from Soyanggang Dam will be used to cool the Fourth Industrial Revolution Data Center facilities. By introducing hydrothermal energy, its energy and CO2 emissions can be reduced by about 64%. It is also expected to create 7,300 high-quality jobs, induce KRW 237.2 billion worth of production, and reduce heating costs by KRW 7 billion a year.

② Improvement of safety and performance of Soyanggang Dam

K-water plans to strengthen the foundation of the spillway and dam and establish a smart monitoring system in order to make the dam stronger and longer-lasting. In addition, a smart dam safety inspection system will be established using Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as aviation and underwater drones, digital twin, and AI.

③ Changes in landscaping for everyone

Soyanggang Dam plans to repair its obsolete facilities, introduce new attractions, and improve its landscape to become a destination for public’s happiness. It will install an information kiosk on top of the dam, which is regularly visited by many people, turn the idle land of the substation into a park, and introduce night lightings that twinkle like starlight in different colors each season in order to become a popular public attraction.

④ Improvement of water environment

As the area around the dam is designated as a natural environment conservation area, Soyanggang Dam strives to improve and restore the habitat of protected species in the reservoir and focuses on coexistence with nature by releasing the young of fishes and reducing muddy water.
